At the Dyfi Osprey Project we aim to ring our osprey chicks when they are around five weeks old. They are given two rings. A blue Darvic ring with white letters or numbers is placed on their right leg (right leg for birds ringed in Wales and England, left leg for birds ringed in Scotland) and a metal BTO ring on their left leg.
The chart below shows the details for all the chicks ringed at the Dyfi nest. In 2011 and 2012 the osprey chicks were also fitted with satellite trackers so were a little older when ringed. At ringing the chicks are also named, all of the names are Welsh rivers or lakes.
