Some fantastic Welsh osprey news this week..

You may recall that Dai Dot has been displaced from his nest (ON 5) in mid Wales this season by another male after breeding there in 2014 and 2015.

The female, named Delyth, was seen incubating Dai's eggs for a few days before he was ousted; Dai was later spotted at Cors Dyfi in late April, but we haven't seen him since.

We suspect that the new male kicked Dai's eggs out of the nest - this is quite common in a displacement situation like this. A couple of weeks later Delyth was observed incubating again.

A couple of days ago photographer Roger Antolik managed to get some far-away images by coupling a high powered telescope to a digital camera - and this is what he shot..

Not only is it quite rare for a female to relay eggs with another male immediately after a displacement scenario like this, it most certainly is rare for three eggs to be laid and all three to hatch!

This week we also learned that there are three chicks (two males and a female) at the ON 4 nest in Snowdonia - so we're on course for 10 fledglings again in Wales from four nests - wonderful news.

Our two will be ringed in a few days and we're hoping to have some news about DNA sampling by then too. Many thanks to Roger and John Williams for sending us the ON 5 updates and video.
