The Dyfi River has a long history of shipping and ship building. The boats and ships built on the river during the 1800s carried their cargoes around the world. It is fitting then that the light fixtures in the Dyfi Wildlife Centre also have a maritime heritage. The pendent lights were originally fitted to ships and have been reclaimed from vessels that have come to the end of their sailing days.
The lights are made of copper and brass. Copper is one of the many metals that was mined in the Dyfi valley and exported by sea.
The lights have had their old bulb fittings replaced with new , energy efficient LED ones. It will now take just a fraction of the energy that would have been needed to run just one of these lights to run all of them!
