The Dyfi Wildlife Centre is clad with cedar that was grown right here in the Dyfi Valley. This is not the first time we have used local timber in a build, the 360 Observatory is clad with timber from the same place. The wood was grown, felled and processed by Dyfi Timber Co who are based in the Esgair Forest above Pantperthog. Their woodlands are sustainably managed with continuous replanting.
The untreated timber from the Dyfi Forest will age naturally from golden yellow to a soft grey. Cedar is used for cladding as it has excellent durability and stability.
Natural timber creates not only an interesting weatherproof finish to the building it is also a great insulator helping to keep the centre warm in winter and cool in summer.
