Beavers became extinct from Wales in the 1600s due to pressure from hunting. Evidence that they were once here still remains in old place names and stories from around the country. Beavers are natural ecosystem engineers and their modifications of water systems can help mitigate flooding and protect areas down stream of their activities. We have been working with the Welsh Beaver Project for a number of years to introduce beavers to an enclosure on the nature reserve to help with the restoration and rewetting of the peat bog.
Our friends at Free Range Designs in Penegoes have created this unique chair for us for our story telling corner. We will be telling tales of beavers and all sorts of other wonderfully wild creatures.
