Chick Hatching Competition 2016

Welcome to the 2016 Guess The Chick Hatching Competition!

Guess the date and time that the first chick will hatch.

Each guess has a minimum donation of £2 and all of that donation will go towards running the Dyfi Osprey Project. We have a Paypal button if you prefer Paypal (but please use the MyDonate button if you pay tax in the UK and can Gift Aid, that’s another 25% added to your donation by the tax man and they don't take a cut either, it's worth an extra 30% almost). You can have as many guesses as you like!!

A few tips:

1. Normal incubation for ospreys is between 35 - 42 days, but the average incubation for the first egg is around 37 days. Today, Sunday, is DAY 34 (but the first egg was laid at 4am - take this into account).

2. The incubation period depends on lots of factors - weather, time invested in incubation, how easily the chick managed to break free. Chicks usually hatch during daylight - but not always.

3. The actual time of hatching will be recorded as the very first time the chick is free and completely independent of its egg.

4. For a quick reference to Glesni and Monty's previous hactching dates, see the table below:

Make sure you say clearly your estimate - For example: “May 26th at 10:30 am"

Monty and Glesni's behaviour has subtly changed during the last day or two - they are eating their fish on the nest for example. The will both now be able to hear and feel their chicks in the eggs. It won't be long now..
