The woolen industry of mid Wales was a huge part of the local economy. Not far from Cors Dyfi there was a small water powered mill that produced tweed and blankets right up to the 1980s. Nothing remains of the actual mill now but we have been working with John Hughes, the master weaver who has kindly donated a selection of fabrics that he wove at the mill.
John's machinery carded, spun, dyed and woven these intricate patterns of Welsh tweed or 'brethyn'. Each pattern has a name and a mathematical work of genius.
