April 6th - Settling Down

Nora will have been with us two weeks tomorrow (Saturday), and Monty arrived last Monday. Apart from the weather changing, not much else has. Both ospreys have started to pair bond for another season and today we saw both birds on the nest for long periods, seemingly content with each other's company.

Monty and Nora this morning - steady on old chap..

For the first couple of days after he arrived back however, Monty looked a little hesitant to hand over any fish that he had caught. Why was this? He was sharing food right from the off last year. We've seen Nora plenty of times over the last few days food soliciting either from the nest or from her favourite Ash tree perch.

Nora didn't seem happy with Monty's reluctance to hand over his fish prey earlier on in the weekNora - Ash tree perch.jpg

Today was a little different, Monty was back to his sharing best, willingly giving his partner his share of his Mullet upon asking. Maybe Monty had not eaten well during his migration from Africa? Perhaps he was over the desert for several days and couldn't fish? He did look a little light upon his return - here's the video of him when he first landed on the nest last Monday.

Four days on, Easter Friday, and all seems well. Here is a short two minute video of some lovely footage from today - the cameras continue to amaze us.

Great to see the two birds back safely at Cors Dyfi. So many have waited over a long winter wishing them both a safe journey back to Wales. I have enjoyed every minute up at the Dyfi Osprey Project this week and will continue to do so over the coming months.

Well done to all at the Project, the cameras and monitors are superb, the new visitor centre layout is brilliant and above all the people at the Project are great.

    Hwyl i bawb.

she said to her young man

Absolutely fantastic quality images and footage. Thanks for posting it up so we can all enjoy the highlights of these magnificent birds. Nice to have the acknowledgements of Network Rail for their generous camera cable contribution allowing this quality to be possible. Springwatch will be pleased I'm sure!
